About This Beer

Vocation Fortune Teller is an 8% Double IPA brewed by Vocation Brewery in Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire. Created for drinkers who enjoy generously hopped, modern craft beer, it brings together substantial hop intensity, a smooth hazy body and a fruit-driven flavour profile without allowing aggressive bitterness to dominate.

Fortune Teller uses Mosaic, Dolcita and Loral hops to create its layered character. Mosaic contributes familiar tropical and berry-like qualities, particularly mango and blueberry, while Dolcita brings ripe peach character. Loral provides a brighter citrus dimension, with lemon and hints of pineapple helping to lift the richer tropical and stone-fruit flavours.

The result is a Double IPA that delivers considerable flavour at 8% ABV while retaining a soft and inviting drinking character. Its hazy presentation and creamy body complement the fruit-forward hopping, while restrained bitterness keeps the finish juicy rather than excessively sharp.

For customers searching for craft beer Ireland has available from leading international breweries, Fortune Teller is an excellent option when something stronger and more hop-intensive than an everyday IPA is called for. You can also browse our IPA and Pale Ale range for more hop-forward beers, from approachable Pale Ales through to powerful Double IPAs.

Tasting Notes

Appearance: Hazy and pale in the glass, with an inviting appearance that immediately signals its modern, fruit-forward Double IPA character.

Aroma: An expressive combination of tropical fruit, ripe stone fruit and fresh citrus. Mango and blueberry mingle with peach, bright lemon and subtle pineapple notes.

Flavour: Juicy tropical and stone-fruit flavours lead, with mango, blueberry and ripe peach developing across the palate. Lemon and pineapple bring freshness and definition, while soft bitterness provides balance without overwhelming the fruit-driven hop character.

Mouthfeel: Smooth, soft and creamy with the substantial body expected from an 8% Double IPA. The restrained bitterness and juicy finish help keep the beer approachable despite its strength and intensity.

About the Brewery

Vocation Brewery is based in Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire, where founder John Hickling established the brewery after leaving his previous career to pursue brewing professionally. The brewery's beginnings are closely associated with an old chicken shed high in the Yorkshire hills, approximately 1,000 feet above sea level.

That unconventional beginning developed into a brewery recognised for bold, flavour-led beers, with hop-forward Pale Ales and IPAs becoming an important part of its identity. Vocation's range has subsequently expanded across numerous styles, from approachable everyday beers to Double IPAs, strong stouts and more experimental special releases.

The brewery has also received recognition at competitions including the World Beer Awards and Great Taste Awards, reflecting its focus on flavour and brewing quality. Fortune Teller sits comfortably within that philosophy: rather than simply relying on its 8% strength, the beer builds its identity around carefully layered hop flavours and texture.

For anyone exploring modern British craft beer, Vocation provides an interesting contrast to more traditional English brewing. Its beers frequently embrace contemporary hop varieties, hazy styles and pronounced fruit character while maintaining the balance required to make powerful beers enjoyable rather than simply intense.

Food Pairings

Vocation Fortune Teller's combination of tropical fruit, citrus, creamy texture and hop character gives it plenty of possibilities alongside food. Its 8% strength and full flavour mean it works particularly well with dishes that might overpower a lighter Pale Ale or lager.

Spicy foods are a natural option. Try it alongside a generously spiced chicken curry, spicy tacos, buffalo chicken wings or a hot chilli. The beer's juicy mango, peach and pineapple-like character can complement sweet and spicy flavours, while the hop profile provides enough intensity to remain noticeable alongside strongly seasoned dishes.

Rich grilled foods are another excellent direction. Burgers topped with mature Cheddar, barbecue pulled pork or chargrilled chicken can work particularly well, with the citrus and hop character helping to cut through richer flavours.

For cheese, consider mature Cheddar, blue cheese or another strongly flavoured variety capable of standing up to an 8% Double IPA. The combination of fruit-forward hops and savoury cheese can create an especially satisfying contrast.

Fortune Teller is best given time to reveal its aroma rather than being served excessively cold. Pouring it into an IPA-style or tulip glass will also provide room for its tropical, stone-fruit and citrus aromas to develop.
