About This Beer
Mescan Westport Red Tripel is a Belgian-style tripel brewed in Co. Mayo by Mescan Brewery. At 8% ABV, it exemplifies the depth and complexity of the tripel style while offering something distinctly Irish. Originally crafted in monasteries of Belgium, tripels are known for their rich malt base, fruity yeast character, and deceptively light mouthfeel despite their strength. Mescan’s version adds a unique Irish flourish — a red hue and malt profile that give this beer its signature character.
Pouring a striking ruby-amber, Westport Red Tripel combines traditional Belgian yeast with carefully selected malts to deliver layers of flavour. It’s a contemplative beer, designed to be savoured slowly, ideal for those who appreciate complexity in their glass.

About the Brewery
Mescan Brewery, nestled on the slopes of Croagh Patrick near Westport, Co. Mayo, was founded by two former vets, Bart Adons and Cillian Ó Móráin. Inspired by Belgian brewing traditions and named after St. Patrick’s brewer, Mescan produces beers that celebrate authenticity, balance, and quality. Their dedication to Belgian styles, from saisons to tripels, has made them one of the most respected names in Irish craft brewing.
This tripel reflects Mescan’s dual heritage — Belgian expertise married with Irish ingredients and water — resulting in a beer that feels both traditional and uniquely Irish.
Food Pairings

It also pairs beautifully with strong cheeses such as aged Gouda or blue cheese. For dessert, serve with spiced fruitcake, dark chocolate, or crème brûlée to highlight its malt and yeast-driven flavours.
