About Wicklow Wolf Extra Elevation
Wicklow Wolf Extra Elevation is a Double Dry Hopped Double Pale Ale created as Endangered Species No. 69 in the independent Irish brewery's limited-release series. Taking inspiration directly from Elevation, Wicklow Wolf's flagship Pale Ale, the brewery describes this release simply as Elevation with "extra everything".
Extra Elevation increases the intensity while retaining the identity of the original beer. The result is an 8.4% ABV Double Pale Ale packed with hops, tropical fruit and citrus character.
The beer is double dry hopped with Mosaic, Strata, Centennial and Huell Melon. Together, these hops deliver the prominent pineapple and grapefruit character highlighted by Wicklow Wolf, creating a bigger and fruitier interpretation of its flagship Pale Ale.
Tasting Notes
- Appearance: Golden to deep golden with a fresh white head.
- Aroma: A pronounced hop aroma with juicy pineapple, grapefruit and layers of tropical and citrus fruit.
- Flavour: Pineapple and grapefruit lead, backed by further tropical fruit and citrus hop character. The increased strength provides extra depth without overwhelming the hops.
- Mouthfeel: Full and satisfying, with considerably more weight than a standard Pale Ale while remaining refreshingly drinkable.
- Finish: Hop-forward and fruity, with lingering grapefruit and tropical notes.
Four Hops, Extra Elevation
The hop combination is at the heart of this release. Mosaic, Strata, Centennial and Huell Melon provide Extra Elevation with a broad spectrum of fruit and hop character rather than relying on a single dominant variety.
Double dry hopping is used to amplify the aromatic side of those hops, helping produce the beer's particularly juicy character. Pineapple and grapefruit are the standout flavours identified by the brewery, making this a strong choice for drinkers who enjoy expressive modern hop profiles.
At 8.4% ABV, Extra Elevation packs considerably more strength than a conventional Pale Ale. However, Wicklow Wolf has deliberately retained the refreshing character associated with Elevation, giving the beer a balance between its bigger body, substantial alcohol content and bright hop flavours.

Endangered Species No. 69
Extra Elevation is number 69 in Wicklow Wolf's Endangered Species series.
Endangered Species provides the brewery with an opportunity to produce limited releases beyond its core range, exploring different beer styles, ingredients and brewing ideas. Extra Elevation turns that experimentation back towards one of Wicklow Wolf's own established beers.
Rather than creating something entirely unrelated to the core range, the brewery has taken Elevation Pale Ale and amplified it. More strength, more hops and a double dry hopping process turn the familiar beer into a substantially bigger expression.
That makes Extra Elevation particularly interesting for existing Elevation drinkers as well as fans of strong, modern Pale Ales and hop-forward Irish craft beer.
Food Pairings
The intense tropical and citrus hop character of Extra Elevation works particularly well with foods capable of standing up to an 8.4% beer.
Try it with spicy chicken wings, loaded burgers, barbecue dishes or richly flavoured tacos. Pineapple and grapefruit notes can provide a refreshing contrast to spicy and savoury foods, while the fuller body works well with richer dishes.
Strong cheeses are another good option, particularly mature cheddar or blue cheese, where the beer's fruitiness and hop character can cut through the richness.
About Wicklow Wolf
Wicklow Wolf Brewing Company is an independent Irish brewery based in Newtownmountkennedy, County Wicklow. Its philosophy centres on producing exceptional beer without compromise while placing sustainability at the heart of its approach.
Elevation is one of the brewery's flagship beers, making the decision to create an amplified Double Pale Ale version especially fitting for the Endangered Species series.
Extra Elevation demonstrates the more experimental side of Wicklow Wolf while maintaining a clear connection with its established range. The combination of an 8.4% ABV, double dry hopping and four distinctive hop varieties creates a beer designed for those looking for a considerably bigger hop experience.
