About Dublin Whiskey Distillery
Dublin Whiskey Distillery was founded in 1872 by John Brannick at Jones's Road, beside the River Tolka on Dublin's northside.
During the nineteenth century, Dublin was one of the world's great whiskey-producing cities, with its distilleries enjoying an international reputation for quality.
The original D.W.D. operation became part of this thriving industry, establishing itself as a significant producer during the golden age of Irish whiskey.
In 1887, renowned whisky writer Alfred Barnard visited the distillery while researching his book, The Whisky Distilleries of the United Kingdom.
Barnard recognised the advanced facilities and high standard of whiskey production at Jones's Road, placing D.W.D. among Dublin's notable distilleries.
Despite its reputation, the business was affected by the wider challenges facing Irish whiskey during the twentieth century.
The original Dublin Whiskey Distillery was eventually sold at auction on 17 October 1946.
For decades, the D.W.D. name remained part of Dublin's distilling history rather than its active whiskey industry.
That changed on 17 October 2017, when the brand was revived with the launch of the Heritage Edition.
The date was deliberately chosen to mark the 71st anniversary of the original distillery's sale.
The modern D.W.D. brand celebrates this history, reconnecting contemporary whiskey drinkers with a name associated with Dublin's once-thriving whiskey industry.
The Small Batch Heritage Edition represents that revival, combining an important historical story with a modern Irish whiskey.
Serving Suggestions and Food Pairings
Dublin's Own Heritage Edition can be enjoyed in several ways, with its honey, vanilla, chocolate and gentle spice notes making it particularly versatile.
Neat
Serve at room temperature in a whiskey glass to appreciate its aromas of honey, vanilla, caramel and dried fruit.
Allow the whiskey a little time in the glass before tasting.
With a Little Water
A few drops of water can help reveal different aspects of the whiskey's aroma and flavour.
This is particularly interesting when exploring the balance between its sweet fruit notes and gentle wood spice.
Over Ice
Serve over a large ice cube for a cooler drinking experience, allowing the whiskey to soften gradually as the ice melts.
Irish Coffee
The whiskey's caramel, vanilla and coffee notes make it an appealing choice for a traditional Irish Coffee.
Dark Chocolate
Dark chocolate complements the whiskey's cocoa and coffee character, while its sweetness provides a pleasant contrast to the bitterness of the chocolate.
Apple Desserts
Apple tart, baked apples and caramel-based desserts work well with the whiskey's toffee apple, vanilla and orchard fruit notes.
Mature Cheese
Mature cheddar and other firm cheeses provide a savoury contrast to the whiskey's smooth, honeyed character.
