Crafted by marrying Irish and Mexican traditions, this whiskey is first matured in American bourbon barrels before being finished in Añejo tequila casks from the legendary town of Tequila, Mexico, for nine months. The result is a vibrant, complex whiskey that bursts with bold character. Bottled at 47% ABV and non-chill filtered, this expression is as natural as it is unique.

Writers’ Tears Tequila Cask Finish Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey is a remarkable and pioneering release from Walsh Whiskey, a distillery known for its innovative approach to whiskey making. Based in County Carlow, Ireland, Walsh Whiskey has consistently pushed the boundaries of traditional Irish whiskey, and this latest release is no exception. The distillery was founded in 1999 by Bernard and Rosemary Walsh, and over the years, it has become a cornerstone of the modern Irish whiskey renaissance, celebrated for its unique and high-quality expressions.

This limited-edition whiskey is the first of its kind, a Single Pot Still Irish whiskey finished in Añejo tequila barrels. The whiskey begins its journey in American bourbon casks, where it develops its initial rich and smooth character. It is then transferred to Añejo tequila barrels sourced from the Amber Beverage Group’s distillery in Mexico, where it spends nine months absorbing the distinctive flavours of the tequila-soaked wood. This innovative finishing process imparts bold, vibrant flavours to the whiskey, creating a sensory experience that is both familiar and entirely new.
