About This Beer
Brickyard Brewing Black Betty Dark Lager 44cl 4.7% brings together the rich roasted flavours of a stout and the refreshing drinkability of a traditional lager.
Originally introduced under the Two Sides Brewing name, Black Betty is a Dublin craft beer with a distinctive personality. Inspired by the Ram Jam classic of the same name, it's a dark lager that combines deep coffee and chocolate flavours with a surprisingly refreshing finish.
The brewery describes Black Betty as a "summer stout", and it's easy to understand why. While its dark appearance and roasted malt character might remind you of a stout or porter, its lager style gives it a cleaner, more refreshing drinking experience.
At 4.7% ABV, Black Betty is approachable enough for a relaxed evening while offering plenty of flavour for anyone who enjoys exploring dark beer styles.
It's an excellent choice for stout enthusiasts who want something different, lager drinkers interested in richer malt flavours, or anyone discovering the variety of Irish craft beer.
Tasting Notes
Brickyard Black Betty combines roasted malt character with the distinctive smoothness of a dark lager.
Appearance: Deep, dark colour with the rich appearance associated with roasted malt beers.
Aroma: Roasted coffee, dark chocolate and rich malt notes.
Taste: Coffee and chocolate flavours, with a gentle treacle-like sweetness and balancing dryness.
Mouthfeel: Smooth and rounded, with a refreshing lager finish.
Black Betty's roasted character is its defining feature.
Coffee and chocolate notes give the beer a richness that will appeal to fans of traditional stouts, while its lager character keeps the drinking experience refreshing.
The combination of darker malt flavours and a clean finish creates a beer that feels substantial without being overly heavy.
There is also a pleasant contrast between the sweeter roasted notes and the beer's drier finish, helping keep the flavours balanced.
This makes Black Betty particularly interesting for anyone who enjoys dark beers but doesn't always want the fuller character of a stout.
About the Brewery
Brickyard Brewing Co. is a Dublin craft brewing project and the next chapter of Two Sides Brewing.
Originally born out of 57 The Headline, Two Sides developed as a collaborative brewing project before being championed by Brickyard in Dundrum.
After several years of Brickyard leading the project, bringing the beers together under the Brickyard Brewing Co. name became a natural evolution.
The new identity retains the collaborative spirit and enthusiasm for independent beer that helped establish Two Sides Brewing.
The range explores a variety of beer styles, from refreshing lagers and hop-forward pale ales to darker, malt-focused beers.
Black Betty is a particularly interesting example of this approach.
Rather than producing another conventional stout, the brewery combines the roasted flavours associated with dark ales with the refreshing qualities of lager.
Beer enthusiasts can also visit Brickyard's taproom in Dundrum, Dublin, to explore the wider brewing project.

Roast Beef
Black Betty's coffee and chocolate flavours complement the rich, savoury character of roast beef.
Its clean lager finish provides a refreshing contrast to gravy and roasted vegetables.

The earthy character of mushrooms complements the beer's roasted flavours without overwhelming them.
Dark Chocolate

The chocolate notes in the beer create a complementary pairing, while its refreshing finish prevents the combination from becoming overly rich.
