Founded in 1836 in the Abbey of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart in Westmalle, Brouwerij der Trappisten van Westmalle is one of only a handful of authentic Trappist breweries in the world. Operated by Cistercian monks, this historic brewery is built on the principles of manual labour, contemplation, and charitable giving. Every Westmalle beer is brewed within the monastery and under the supervision of the monastic community, with all profits directed towards abbey upkeep and charitable work.
