Northern Monk was founded in 2013 by Russell Bisset with the goal of reviving the monastic spirit of dedication, patience, and community through beer. What began as a small setup in a parent’s cellar quickly evolved into a world-class brewery based in the historic Old Flax Store in Leeds. Northern Monk has grown significantly while maintaining its core mission — combining traditional values with bold, modern flavours.
The brewery is best known for its diverse range of IPAs, including juicy New England-style hazies, punchy West Coast variants, and limited-run collaborations under the Patrons Project label. In addition to hop-forward styles, Northern Monk also produces stouts, lagers, sours, and seasonal specialities — many of which are aged in barrels or infused with local ingredients.
