Producer Background
Maredret Abbey was founded in 1893 in the Namur region of Belgium, and although it never historically brewed beer on site, the Benedictine sisters recently partnered with brewers to create a line of beers inspired by their values and ancient medicinal traditions. Rather than replicating Trappist ales, Maredret’s beers are infused with herbs, spelt, and botanicals — creating a range that is both spiritually and botanically expressive.
The first two releases, Altus and Triplus, are brewed at the Espace Belvaux facility using recipes developed in close collaboration with the abbey. Altus is a strong, dark ale enriched with cloves and sage, while Triplus is a lighter, golden ale brewed with coriander and elderflower. Both balance Belgian fermentation character with aromatic depth, offering an experience that’s more contemplative than conventional.
